The Township remains committed to keeping the community informed as the project continues to evolve. Staff continue to monitor project developments, announcements, and consultation activities, including steps being taken by the federal government as planning for the first identified corridor between Ottawa and Montréal progresses. As new information becomes available, the Township will share updates and provide links to relevant reports, consultation materials, and project information published by ALTO that may be of interest to residents and stakeholders.

The timeline below provides an overview of the Township's response to the proposed ALTO High-Speed Rail project, including Council actions, consultation activities, stakeholder engagement efforts, and significant project updates.
- Alto launched a three-month consultation process that was later extended to April 24, 2026.
- Early in January 2026, Alto issued an updated map on their website identifying northern and southern corridors. The proposed southern corridor would travel through Tyendinaga Township.
- A notice of motion to oppose the southern route option of the Alto high-speed rail was tabled by Councillor Phillips and was unanimously supported by Council.
- A notice of motion to direct staff to prepare a report providing a high-level overview of Bill C-15, including its proposed changes and current status in the House, was tabled by Deputy Mayor Lang and was unanimously supported by Council.
- Council attended the Open House held by Alto in Madoc, Stirling-Rawdon, and South Frontenac. The open house provided access to Alto staff for questions along with multiple stations providing information on specific topics.
- Representatives from Alto provided a briefing at a Council meeting.
- A notice of motion to oppose regulatory changes associated with Bill C-15 or related federal processes that would weaken environmental safeguards, reduce meaningful consultation standards, or otherwise expedite infrastructure approvals without full transparency and engagement and to ensure that any routing or planning decisions for the ALTO project are subject to comprehensive environmental review and include robust opportunities for municipal participation was tabled by Deputy Mayor Lang and was unanimously supported by Council.
- Tyendinaga Township CAO (Carla Preston) attended an Alto stakeholder meeting that included, for example, staff from area municipalities, Eastern Trail, OFA, and conservation authorities.
- A notice of motion to oppose the Alto high-speed rail in its current form was tabled by Councillor Phillips and was unanimously supported by Council.
- Mayor Kennelly was one of sixteen heads of Council included in a joint letter to the Right Honourable Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada, expressing a unified opposition to this project through their communities, along with the many concerns associated with the project, as well as supporting the concept of aligning with the 401 corridor.
The Alto consultation period ended on April 24, 2026.
